Simple Cooking with Anna and Neal

 Embracing Your Simple Tasks

"For he who is least among you all - he is the greatest."  Luke 9: 46-50

Do you ever change the rules?  I do.  I still cook, but the rules have been changed.  I follow only one...easy to make.

With this new set of rules, I rejoiced over a delightful cookbook compiled by a kindergarten class.  May I invite you to step into our kitchen and try out a few of their recipes from the book entitled, Our Favorite Recipes.

"CON" Pie:  Get some "cons".  Put the "cons" on a pie crust.  Put it in the stove.  Cook the pie for three minutes.  Take it out.  Put it on a plate and eat it.  All gone!

CHEESECAKE:  Buy a box with cheesecake mix on it.  Mix it up.  Pour it in the pie crust.  Put it in the oven.

PIZZA:  Call Pizza Hut.  Send Daddy to the store.  Get a coupon book from Pizza Hut.  It says, "Say No To Drugs".  Take it home and eat it.

FRENCH FRIES:  Cut up the potatoes.  Put the potatoes in a skillet.  Cook for six hours.  Eat them with ketchup.  They are hot.

There are many more, but these were just samples of my favorite ones.  Did you realize that these children didn't make things complicated.  Only adults do that.  We are so good at taking a simple happening and adding to it with our own creativity and imagination until we "gaudy" it up.

Would you like a simple recipe for Healthy, Wealthy and Wise Living?

LOVE:  Accept God's gift of love.  Pour it in your heart.  Mix it up.  Cook by abiding.  Take it out; give it to somebody else until it's all gone.

PEACE:  Melt away all resentment and hard heartedness.  Get a coupon for the Bible that says, "Say yes to God's presence."  Talk to Him; He will give you His peace.  When your heart is soft, it is done.

JOY:  Get a song.  Put it in your ordinary day.  Stir in with laughter and goodwill.  Start serving it now.  It will feed all you come in contact with.

HOPE: Make a circle with hope.  Put your dreams and good wishes in the middle.  Garnish with a positive outlook from God's Word.  Serve with love and faith.

We could put this all together in the final recipe:

  • 1 bushel of love
  • 2 baskets of peace
  • 4 cups of joy
  • Touch of hope
  • Pinch of gifts

Combine all ingredients tenderly in all your relationships for a lifetime.  Yield:  One joyous celebration of life.
